Active listening

In a democracy, every voice deserves to be heard. And that means listening with an open mind and a willingness to learn from others.

Active listening is one of the most overlooked – yet essential – democratic skills. It’s not just about hearing words, but about genuinely trying to understand what’s being said. You ask questions, show interest, and let the other person finish before you respond.

Active listening fosters respect and creates space for diversity. When we practice it, we become better at connecting through conversation – even when we disagree.
